UPSC Civil Services (CSE) photo & signature
UPSC asks for a photo and a signature image (your signature three times, one below the other), each a JPG between 20 and 300 KB, with width and height between 350 and 1000 pixels.
UPSC also captures a live photo with your camera while you fill the Common Application Form. That one is taken on the portal; the files below are the uploaded photo and signature.
Photograph — 20–300 KB · 350–1000 × 350–1000 px
- JPG / JPEG, 20–300 KB
- Width and height between 350 and 1000 pixels (we make 600 × 771 px, which also fits the older 550–1000 px rule in UPSC's PDF FAQ)
- At least three-quarters of your face clearly visible
- UPSC does not state a background colour; a plain white or light background is the safe choice
Signature (three times, one below the other) — 20–300 KB · 350–1000 × 350–1000 px
- Sign three times, one below the other, on plain white paper with a black pen
- JPG / JPEG, 20–300 KB
- Width and height between 350 and 1000 pixels (we make 500 × 500 px, which also fits the older 350–500 px rule in UPSC's PDF FAQ)
- Signatures must be clear and legible
Other rules
- Both an uploaded photo and a live photo are required for CSE 2026.
- No thumb impression or handwritten declaration is required for CSE.
- If your e-Admit Card photo is unclear or lacks your name and date, UPSC asks you to bring two passport-size photos with your name and date of photograph to the exam — use the optional name & date strip for those prints.
